FIJI TOURISM DEVELOPMENT PLAN LAUNCHED
The Ministry of Tourism has launched the Fiji
Tourism Development Plan which articulates the
vision for the continued growth of the industry for
the period 2008- 2016. The plan, which replaces the
1998 - 2005 plan, has among its desired outcomes an
annual growth rate of 9%, sees Fiji achieving 1.1m
visitor arrivals by 2016 with a corresponding 16,000
rooms inventory. It espouses a strong partnership
between the government and the private sector to
drive this vision.

FIJI TO HOST 120 US TRAVEL AGENTS NEXT MONTH
The Fiji Islands Visitors Bureau is partnering with
its national airline carrier Air Pacific Limited,
key wholesaler partners, and its tourism industry to
host the country’s inaugural “Fiji an Amazing Place”
educational from the 3rd to the 9th of December,
2007. The goal of the exercise is to increase
awareness levels of the diversity of holiday
experiences available in Fiji and increase
conversion levels on Fiji. Wholesalers taking part

FIJI MARKETING FORUM PROVES TO BE A SUCCESS
With more than 50 people in attendance, the Fiji
Marketing Forum, sponsored by Air Pacific, Fiji’s
international airline with assistance of Fiji
Islands Visitors Bureau, held October 17-19, 2007,
brought together more than 20 wholesalers and 20
resort representatives who provided market and
wholesaler updates during the three-day summit. All
participants were divided into groups and addressed
specific issues relating to North America. Held at
the Newport Beach Marriott Bayview hotel in Newport
Beach, California, participants convened to discuss
ways in which the tourism destination can continue
to build relationships and work together to ensure
increased business to Fiji. The 2007 Fiji Marketing
Forum included excursions to some of Southern
California’s top tourist attractions including golf
at Tustin Ranch, a cruise to Catalina Island, and
visits to Balboa Island and Fashion Island for
shopping.

FIJI ISLANDS VISITORS BUREAU ATTENDS MINNEAPOLIS TRAVEL SHOW
Fiji Islands Visitors Bureau teamed up with Air
Pacific and Islands In The Sun and attended The
Minneapolis Travel Show last month. Attending the
trade and consumer event were 6,000 enthusiastic
travel consumers and 300 travel agents. Exhibitors
received a free electronic list of travel agents
attending the show.

DIVE FIESTA SET FOR NOVEMBER
The annual Fiji Dive Fiesta is scheduled from November
10-17, 2007. Twenty dive wholesalers from the US,

VOYAGER TRAVEL DEVELOPS 13-DAY FAM ITINERARY FOR TOP FIJI MATAI SPECIALISTS

Goldendale, Washington, has recently developed a 13-day
fam itinerary for nine Matai specialists who will visit

Fiji Islands Visitors Bureau’s top travel partners,
including Air Pacific, Air New Zealand. Shangri-La Fijian

Goway and Pacific Sunspots, recently teamed up this Fall,
2007 with other South Pacific representatives to present a

SHERATON PLANS FOR 2008 MULTI MILLION DOLLAR REFURBISHMENT
The Sheraton Fiji Resort will be undergoing a $22
million enhancement program beginning April 2008.
The refurbishment will encompass all areas of the
Resort from the Grand Lobby to the pool,
recreational facilities, meeting venues and space
guest rooms. To complete the project, the resort
will close from April 1, 2008 and will re-open
October 1, 2008.

MANA ISLAND RESORT PREPARES FOR NEW SPA & GUESTROOM IMPROVEMENTS
Mana Island Resort in Mamanuca is prepared to begin
upgrades which will include a name and logo change,
new spa facilities and upgrades to rooms and bures.
Beginning on April 1, 2008, Mana Island Resort will
change its name to “Mana Island Resort & Spa”
The Mana Spa will consist of three Forest Treatment
Bures and one Royal Suite Treatment Bure. Which will

NATADOLA'S FIVE-STAR RESORT TO OPEN IN EARLY, 2009
The luxury 275-room Natadola Beach Resort is set to
open for business in early 2009. According to
project managers HLK Jacobs, the Heritage 18-hole
golf course is 62% complete and the hotel structure
is 41% complete and all is going according to plan.
