JULY, 2007 VISITOR ARRIVALS SHOW CANADA UP BUT USA DOWN
Fiji hosted a total of 9,373 North Americans in
July this year compared to 9,881 in July last year,
showing a decrease of 5.1%. While the US market decreased
by 8.9%, the Canadian market showed a 13% increase. From
January to July 2007 Fiji hosted a total of 47,928 North
Americans compared with 48,247 for the same period last
year, reflecting a decrease of 0.6% or 319 visitors. From
January to July this year the Canadian market increased by
22.3%, from 8,803 last year to 10,770 this year or an
increase of 1,967 visitors. However the US market
decreased by 5.7%, down by 2,286 visitors from last year's
39,444 visitors to this year's 37,158. The health of the
US economy, consumer sentiment, in particular the
stuttering housing market will no doubt play a role in
future travel demand patterns.
